About - Aeronautical Engineering

To cater to the growing need in Aeronautical Engineering education, TEC has started, as a first step, a 4-year UG programme from this academic year. AICTE has accorded approval and this BE course is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.

Currently there are four members of staff. The HOD and two of the Professors are Ph.D. holders.

The B.E., Aeronautical Engineering Programme envisaged will have its accent on the Research and Development aspects of Aerospace activities in our country and abroad. Equal stress is laid on the three broad areas namely, Airplane structures, Aerodynamics and Airplane Propulsion. Importance is given to Airplane Design and student project work. Field trips / visits to Aeronautical and space establishments in the neighbourhood in our country have been planned as part of the curriculum. The syllabus content pertains to the R&D training of students as defined by the Anna University.

Training in special areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Methods and use of specialized analysis software are also included.

A separate building for Aeronautical Engineering Department has been constructed comprising aerodynamics, structures and propulsion laboratories, classrooms, staff rooms and hangar space for airplanes and engines.

Facilities Available:

The department provides a network of computers with updated configurations. Software applications from word-processing to advanced statistical and mathematical packages are available.

Student Association Activities:

The students of our department have formed an association named "INFOTEAM". This association organizes technical seminars, conferences and workshops. Students are encouraged to take part in activities organized by the other institutions in the country, for participation, paper presentation, quiz, etc., thereby increasing their awareness about interactive participation and intellectual involvement.

Industry exposure:
  • A PUSHPAK trainer airplane in the airframe laboratory.
  • An open circuit subsonic wind tunnel of 0.6m x 0.6m (2ft x 2ft) test section with a speed of 200 kmph in the aerodynamics laboratory.
  • A water flow channel for flow visualization studies.
  • Accessories like manometers, wind tunnel balances and models.
  • A subsonic Ramjet engine in the propulsion laboratory.
  • A miniature supersonic wind tunnel in the high- speed aerodynamics laboratory.
  • Beam and column testing set up in the structures laboratory.
  • Axial flow and centrifugal flow jet engines and piston engines.
  • A large number of books on different aspects of Aerospace Engineering in the library.
  • A PUSHPAK trainer airplane in the airframe laboratory.
